Leonard was born on October 28th, 1917 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.¹ Leonard's father was Joseph Rose SHILTON and his mother was Sarah Jane SMITH. His paternal grandparents were George SHILTON and Ann ROSE. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Joseph, Cyril, George, Jack, Gertrude, Elsie, Edna, Gladys, Winifred, Kath and Marjorie. He died at the age of 68 in 1985 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.¹
