George was born on April 29th, 1913 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.¹ George's father was Joseph Rose SHILTON and his mother was Sarah Jane SMITH. His paternal grandparents were George SHILTON and Ann ROSE. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Joseph, Cyril, Jack, Leonard, Gertrude, Elsie, Edna, Gladys, Winifred, Kath and Marjorie. He died at the age of 74 in 1987 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.¹
