Gladys was born on August 16th, 1911 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.¹ Gladys' father was Joseph Rose SHILTON and her mother was Sarah Jane SMITH. Her paternal grandparents were George SHILTON and Ann ROSE. She had five brothers and six sisters, named Joseph, Cyril, George, Jack, Leonard, Gertrude, Elsie, Edna, Winifred, Kath and Marjorie. She died at the age of 82 in 1993 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.¹
