Robert was born in July 1253 in Annandale, Dumfrieshire, Scotland.  Robert's father was Robert "The Competitor" Bruce and his mother was Isabel De Clare.  His paternal grandparents were Robert De Bruce and Isabella Huntingdon; his maternal grandparents were Gilbert De Clare and Isabel Mareschal. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Bernard, William, Richard, John, Christiana and Alosia.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.  He died before April 4th, 1304 in Palestine.  He was buried in Holme Abbey, Holme Cultram, Cumberland, England.

‌Robert and Marjorie (Margaret) were married in a religious ceremony in 1271 in Turnberry Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland.  They had five sons and seven daughters, named Robert, Edward, Nigel (Niel), Thomas, Alexander, Isabella, Matilda, Margaret, Elizabeth, Margery, Christiana and Mary.
