Robert was born on July 11th, 1274 in Writtle, Essex, England.  Robert's father was Robert De Bruce and his mother was Marjorie (Margaret) UNKNOWN.  His paternal grandparents were Robert "The Competitor" Bruce and Isabel De Clare; his maternal grandparents were Nicolaus Kennedy and Marjorie (Margaret) Stewart. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Edward, Nigel (Niel), Thomas, Alexander, Isabella, Matilda, Margaret, Elizabeth, Margery, Christiana and Mary. He had two half-sisters named Isobel and Juliana.  He died at the age of 54 on June 7th, 1329 in Cardross, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.  He was buried in Dunfermline Abbey, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.

‌Robert and Elizabeth (Ellen) were married in a religious ceremony in 1302 in Writtle, Essex, England.  They had two sons and three daughters, named John, David II, Matildis, Maud Princess and Margaret.
