His paternal grandparents were John Andrews and Sarah Lincoln; his maternal grandfather was James Danbrook and his maternal grandmother is Sarah Smith. He had nine brothers and two sisters, named James, George, William, Robert, Benjamin, David, Michael, Samuel, Alfred, Elizabeth and Mary. He is the third oldest of the twelve children.-
