Michael was born on December 3rd, 1823 in Henstead, Suffolk, England. Michael's father was John Andrews and his mother was Amy Danbrook. His paternal grandparents were John Andrews and Sarah Lincoln; his maternal grandfather was James Danbrook and his maternal grandmother is Sarah Smith. He had nine brothers and two sisters, named James, George, John, William, Robert, Benjamin, David, Samuel, Alfred, Elizabeth and Mary. He is the third youngest of the twelve children.-
