Elizabeth was born on December 14th, 1814 in Henstead, Suffolk, England. Elizabeth's father was John Andrews and her mother was Amy Danbrook. Her paternal grandparents were John Andrews and Sarah Lincoln; her maternal grandfather was James Danbrook and her maternal grandmother is Sarah Smith. She had ten brothers and a sister, named James, George, John, William, Robert, Benjamin, David, Michael, Samuel, Alfred and Mary. She is the fourth oldest of the twelve children.-
