Ela was born about 1187 in , Amesbury, Wiltshire, England.1   Ela's father was William Fitzpatrick and her mother was Eleanor (Alianore) De Vitre.  Her paternal grandparents were Patrick Devereux Earl of Salisbury and Ela De Talavaise; her maternal grandparents are Robert De Vitre and Emma Dinan. She had a brother and a sister, named Gilbert Malmaines and Joan de.  She was the second oldest of the three children. She had a half-sister named Ela.  She died on August 24th, 1261 in , Laycock, Wiltshire, England.  She was buried in Abbey, Laycock, Wiltshire, England.1 1

‌Ela and William were married in a religious ceremony in 1198 in <, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England>.1   They had four sons and six daughters, named William, Richard, Stephen, Nicholas, Ela, Isabel, Petronilla, Isa, Ida (Idonea) "Camvile" and Lora.
