His paternal grandparents are Caradawg ap Gwyn and Miss verch Gwerystan; his maternal grandparents were Gruffydd ap Llewelyn Prince of Deheubarth and Ealdgyth 'Swan-neck' Of England. He had six brothers named Llywarch ap, Meurig ap, Griffri ap, Ednomain ap, Ieuan ap and Madog ap. He is the oldest of the seven children. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Simon, Hugh, Hugh Of Richard's Castle and Nesta Verch.-
