His maternal grandparents were Gruffydd ap Llewelyn Prince of Deheubarth and Ealdgyth 'Swan-neck' Of England. He had two brothers and a sister, named Hugh, Hugh Of Richard's Castle and Nesta Verch. He is the oldest of the four children. He had seven half-brothers named Owain ap, Llywarch ap, Meurig ap, Griffri ap, Ednomain ap, Ieuan ap and Madog ap.-
