Silas was born on February 13th, 1772 in ,Chatham,Nc. Silas' father was Stephen Hobson and his mother was Ann Barnes. His paternal grandparents were Cpt George Hobson and Hannah Kinnison; his maternal grandparents were Brinsley Barnes and Elizabeth Lindley. He had four brothers and a sister, named Stephen, George, David, John and Ann. He is the second youngest of the six children. He had a half-brother named Joseph.-
