Hugh I was born about 1250 in <, Audley, Stafford, England>.1   Hugh I's father was James de Audley Justice of Chester and his mother was Ella Longespee.  His paternal grandparents were Henry De Audley Sheriff of Shropshire and Bertred Mainwaring; his maternal grandparents were William Longspee Earl of Salisbury and Idoine de Camville Countess of Salisbury. He had a brother and two sisters, named Nicholas De, Joan Of and Maud. He had four half-brothers named James Of, William Of, Hugh de and Henry Of.  He died in 1325.1
