James de was born about 1217 in , Heleigh, Staffordshire, England.1   James de's father was Henry De Audley Sheriff of Shropshire and his mother was Bertred Mainwaring.  His paternal grandfather was Adam De Audley and his paternal grandmother is Emma Fitzorm. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Ralf de, Henry de, Emma Of and Alice de.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had three half-sisters named Audley, Unknown and Emma.  He died about June 11th, 1272 in , , , Ireland.1
