Thomas was born in 1314 in Broughton,Buckinghamshire or Upholand,Lancastershire,England.  Thomas' father was Robert II de Holland and his mother was Maud la Zouche.  His paternal grandparents were Robert de Holland and Elizabeth de Salmesbury; his maternal grandparents were Alan la Zouche and Eleanor de Segrave. He had a brother and five sisters, named Robert III, Maud, Margaret, Alianore, Joan (Jane) and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 46 on December 26th, 1360 in Normandy, France.  He was buried in Greyfriars Church, Stamford, Lincoln, England.

‌Thomas and Joan Plantagenet the Fair Maid of were married in a religious ceremony about 1340.  They had three sons and two daughters, named Thomas II, John, Edmund, Joan and Matilda.
