Richard the Red Earl was born about 1259.  Richard the Red Earl's father was Walter de Burgh and his mother was Aveline FitzJohn.  His paternal grandfather was Richard the Great de Burgh and his paternal grandmother is Egidia Giles de Lacy; his maternal grandparents were John FitzGeoffrey of Berkhampstead and Isabel de Bigod. He had a sister named Egidia.  He was the older of the two children. He had three half-brothers named Theobald, Thomas and William.  He died on July 29th, 1326 in Athassel.

‌Richard the Red Earl and Hawise were married in a religious ceremony.  They had two sons and six daughters, named Edmund, John, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Aveline, Katherine, Matilda and Joan.
