His paternal grandparents were Edward III Plantagenet of England and Philippa of Hainault; his maternal grandparents were Payne de Roet and Mrs. de Roet. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, Henry and Joan. He had five half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Edward, John, John, Henry IV Bolingbroke Plantagenet of, John, Philippa Plantagenet of, Elizabeth Plantagenet of, Isabel, Katherine Plantagenet of and Blanche.-
