Jesse Martin was born on July 22nd, 1856 in Kanawha County, Virginia. Jesse Martin's father was LaFayette M. Shaver and his mother was Eliza Virginia Martin. His paternal grandparents were Paul Shaver and Caroline Sarah Harper; his maternal grandparents are Dioclesian Martin and UNKNOWN Catherine. He had six brothers and six sisters, named William B., Marcus Lafayette, Andrew Johnson, Dioclesian Martin, Thomas Stanton, James Hayes, Josephine, Rosilla C., Virginia Elizabeth, Nancy Alice, Scynthia F. and Minnie G.. He was the oldest of the thirteen children. He died at the age of 72 on November 23rd, 1928.-
