Mary Etta was born on February 15th, 1879 in Pontotoc Co., Mississippi.1 Mary Etta's father was George William Turner and her mother was Penetta A. Salmon. Her paternal grandparents are William Turner and Cynthia Haywood; her maternal grandparents were John Anderson Salmon and Mary Ann Tutor. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Orin Jackson, Brown Lee, Chesterfield F., George Warren, Jessie L., Organ H., Ada, Corrina, Anna Belle and Loy.
