Sarah was born in July 1886 in Knott Co., Kentucky.1 Sarah's father was Alexander Ritchie and her mother was Lucinda Combs. Her paternal grandfather was John Ritchie and her paternal grandmother is Sylvania Sizemore. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, David, Monroe, Martha, Mary Ann and Elizabeth.
