Hadessa was born in 1826 in Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania.1 Hadessa's father was Ralph Benjamin Means and her mother was Hadessa Nancy Whitsett. Her paternal grandparents were Adam Means and Margaret Hutchinson; her maternal grandparents are William Whitsett and Hadessa Crawford. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Ralph Whitsett, John T., Margaret, Nancy and Emily. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children. She died at the age of 51 on December 16th, 1877 in 287 Lacock St., Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. She was buried on December 18th, 1877 in Highwood Cem., Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania.1 1 General Notes
