William Graves, Capt. Bouldin 
William Graves, Capt. was born on March 21st, 1792 in Henry, VA.1 William Graves, Capt.'s father was Green, Captain Bouldin and his mother was Mary Graves. His paternal grandparents were Thomas, Jr. Bouldin and Martha Moseley; his maternal grandparents were William, Captain Graves and Mary Unknown. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Richard T., James Massey, Captain, Ephraim, Green, Jr., Thomas U., Amey G., Mary, Elizabeth and Massey. He was the second oldest of the ten children. He had a half-brother named Ephraim. He died at the age of 65 on September 30th, 1857 in Washington, TX. He was buried in Chappell Hill, Texas Bouldin-Routt Cementry..1 1 General Notes

Williams Graves Bouldin migrated to Alabama with his family as the Cher
ok ee territory opened from expansion. He was a surveyor, lawyer, magist
ra te and Judge. He was an organizer of the Democratic Party in Alabam
a. He w as commissioned a Capatin in the 2nd regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Di
visi on of the alabama Militia during the war of 1812. He rose to t
he ra nk of Colonel and was presented a sword by the State of Alabama f
or patrio tic services renered in that war. During the war he became acqua
inted wi th Captain Eli Hammond, a very close friend and companion of Gene
ral Andr ew Jackson. When Jackson ascened to the Presidency, Hammond us
ed his influ ence with him to obtain for his future son in law a comissi
on as U.S. Surv eyor of the Florida lands. He and his wife, Elizabeth Purn
ell Hammond, we re frequent guest of the Jackson Family, she having been b
orn in Davids on County, Tennessee, and a close friend of Rachel Jackson
's niece. Selli ng the farm in Alabama, they left for Texas in 1850 and be
gan farming oper ations there with slaves bought along for that purpos
e. He established t he Bouldin-Routt Cemetery mear his home site at the ti
me of his wife's dea th in 1855. He folowed her in deth in 1857, and is bu
ried beside her.
