Thomas Graves Bouldin 
Thomas Graves was born on June 28th, 1847 in Washington Co., Texas.1 Thomas Graves' father was Hammond Bouldin and his mother was Martha Jane Bouldin. His paternal grandparents were William Graves, Capt. Bouldin and Elizabeth Purnell Hammond; his maternal grandfather was Thomas U. Bouldin and his maternal grandmother is Mary Ann Dedman. He was an only child. He died at the age of 61 in August 1908 in Old Lawn, Taylor Co., Texas. He was buried in Old Lawn, Taylor Co., Texas.1 1 General Notes

Thomas Graves was only four years old when his mother died. He was k
no wn to be partially deaf, ostensibly due to measles at an early ag
e. He con tinued to live with his father and subsequent step-mother, Eliza
beth Brown ing Bouldin, until 1871, when he went out on his own as a farme
r. He own ed a small farmstead of 139 acres in Austin County, Texas near t
he to wn of Kenney. Other than a short period of residency in Burnet Coun
ty betw een 1878 and 1880, most of his activity took place in Washingto
n, Austin a nd Colorado Counties, prior to leaving for Taylor County abo
ut 190 5. It is said that he used a "horn" to enhance his hearing and th
is unusu al sight aroused much curiosity. He reportedly felt great humilia
tion wh en spurned by a widow he was attracted to when she and her copanio
ns whisp ered and laughed about his affectation to her. Shortly after th
is occurren ce he was found at his home, having hung himself in a despera
te state of d epression.
