Jewelle Oma was born on December 18th, 1897 in Ludwig, Johnson Co., Arkansas.1 Jewelle Oma's father was James Oliver Basham and her mother was Clara Jane King. Her paternal grandparents were James Oliver, Sr. Basham and Lemira Jane Shelton. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Walter Newton, Clemmie Lamira, King James, Heartsill Alfred, Bertha Minnie, Bessie Mary and Imogene. She was the third youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 88 on March 24th, 1986 in Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Arkansas.1 General Notes
