James Oliver Basham 
James Oliver was born on September 16th, 1862 in Clarksville, Johnson Co., Arkansas.1 James Oliver's father was James Oliver, Sr. Basham and his mother was Lemira Jane Shelton. His paternal grandparents were Jonathan Basham and Delilah Payne. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named William Jonathan, Sara Jane, John Mahlon, Martha Ann Elizabeth (Mattie), Cora, Minnie B., Delilah 'Dilla' (Twin), Hannah (Twin), Julia Ellen and Josephine. He was the third oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 86 on April 21st, 1949 in Ft Smith, Sebastian Co., Arkansas.1 General Notes

J O Basham, 86 years old, former Clarksville resident, died at t
he ho me of a daughter, Mrs Imogene Wilson of Fort Smith, Thursd
ay at 1 p m aft er a long illness. he had lived in Fort Smith for the pa
st year. A nati ve and lifelong resident of Johnson County, Mr Basham w
as in the grocery b usiness here about 20 years ago. Later, he was a buil
ding contractor.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Funeral servi
ce wi ll be conducted Saturday at 2 p m at the First Presbyterian Chur
ch by R ev E Hoyt Kerr, pastor. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery und
er directi on of the Hardwicke Funeral Home. Besides Mrs Wilson, survivo
rs include th ree other daughters, Mrs Herbert Jett and Mrs Jewell Las
er of Little Roc k, Mrs Bertha Godwin of Washington; three sons, King Bash
am, Fort Smith, H eartsill Basham, Los Angeles, Walter Basham, Oakland, Ca
