John De was born about 1197 in Of Bramber, Sussex, England Gower, Wales. John De's father was William III Th Baron De Braose and his mother was Maud Matilda De St Valery. His paternal grandfather was William II De Braose and his paternal grandmother is Bertha De Pitres; his maternal grandparents were Bernard IV De St Valery and Eleanor De Domnart. He had a brother and three sisters, named William IV The Younger De, Matilda De, Margaret De and Leuca De. He was the youngest of the five children.
