1 _KKNB He was the first English Prince of Wales & investe
d at Caernarfon Castle in
1 _KKNB 1301.The castle was built under the order of his f
ather Edward 1, one of the
1 _KKNB many castles built during his father's reign.
1 _KKNB EDWARD II (1284-1327) was one of the most unsucces
sful kings in English history. He was a poor general and w
as disliked by nearly all his barons and even by his wife
, Queen Isabella.
1 _KKNB Edward, a member of the Plantagenet royal family
, was born in Caernarfon, Wales. He was the first heir t
o the English throne to receive the title Prince of Wales
. He succeeded his father, Edward I, in 1307. The young k
ing's reign was tr
1 _KKNB oubled by many political trials and executions. I
n 1314, he lost an important battle to the Scottish leade
r Robert Bruce at Bannockburn, Scotland.
1 _KKNB In 1325, Queen Isabella visited France. From ther
e, she and her lover, Roger Mortimer, organized an invasio
n of England. They and their supporters forced Edward to g
ive up the throne to his son Edward III in 1327. Edward I
I was murdered
1 _KKNB that year.

1 _KKNB 24 Jan 1327 = Edward II forced to abdicate.
1 _KKNB He was not interested in fighting and upset the ba
rons because he only listened
1 _KKNB to friends. The barons murdered Gaveston, one of t
hese friends, when Edward
1 _KKNB would not send him away. The Scots began to beat t
he English & Edward was so
1 _KKNB unpopular that he had to give up the throne.
1 _KKNB Roger Mortimer, with his mistress, Edward's estran
ged wife Isabella, invaded
1 _KKNB England in 1326 to seize power. Their army was com
pletely successful and Edward
1 _KKNB was deposed. The Despensers, father and son (frien
ds of the king), were
1 _KKNB captured and executed. Edward was imprisioned in K
enilworth Castle, and then
1 _KKNB Berkley Castle in Gloucestershire, and eventuall
y murdered (1327),on the orders
1 _KKNB of Isabella and Mortimer. His death was particular
ly grusome as the order for
1 _KKNB his execution stipulated that no external marks sh
ould be left which would
1 _KKNB betray violence. The only way to do this was by di
sembowelment with a red hot
1 _KKNB iron inserted into the rectum, a conventional for
m of death for homosexuals at
1 _KKNB the time.

1 _KKNB Edward II
1 _KKNB Edward II (reigned 1307-27) had few of the
1 _KKNB qualities which made a successful medieval king.
1 _KKNB He surrounded himself with favourites, and the
1 _KKNB barons, feeling excluded from power, rebelled.
1 _KKNB Throughout his reign different baronial groups
1 _KKNB struggled to gain power and control the King. The
1 _KKNB nobles' Ordinances of 1311, which attempted to
1 _KKNB limit royal control of finance and appointments,
1 _KKNB were ignored by Edward. Large debts (many
1 _KKNB inherited) and the Scots' victory at Bannockburn
1 _KKNB made Edward more unpopular. Finally, in 1326,
1 _KKNB Edward's wife, Isabelle of France, led an invasion
1 _KKNB against her husband. In 1327 Edward was made to
1 _KKNB renounce the throne in favour of his son, Edward,
1 _KKNB and was later murdered at Berkeley Castle.
