Gilbert was born about 1196.1 Gilbert's father was Margaret MARSHAL and his mother was Isabel DE CLARE. His paternal grandparents were John MARSHAL and Sybil FITZ PATRICK; his maternal grandparents were Richard DE CLARE and Aoife/Eva MACMURROUGH. He had seven brothers and eight sisters, named William II, William, Richard, Walter, Anselm, Anselm/Ambrose, Gilbert III, Margaret, Maud, Eve, Isabel, Joan, Sibyl, Sybil and Eva. He had a half-brother named Roger. He died on June 27th, 1241 in Hertford, Hertfordshire, England.1 General Notes
