His paternal grandparents were III Charles and Ogive Eadgina of England; his maternal grandparents were Heinrich I "the Fowler" and Matilda von Ringelheim. He was the second oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Henri, Alberade, Gerberga and Duchess of Bavaria. He died in Kerker, Orlaeans, France; captivity; imprisoned by Hugh Capet. He was buried in St. Servatius, Maastricht.-
