Isabel FitzGilbert was born about 1172 in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales.  Isabel FitzGilbert's father was Richard "Strongbow" de Clare and her mother was Aoife (Eve) McMurrough.  Her paternal grandparents were Gilbert De Clare and Elizabeth (Isabel) de Beaumont; her maternal grandparents were Diarmait MacMurchada and More (O'Toole) ua Tuathail. She had a sister named Joan.  She was the older of the two children.  She died in 1220 in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales.  She was buried in Tintern Abby, Pembroke, Wales.

‌Isabel FitzGilbert and William were married in a religious ceremony in August 1189 in London, Middlesex, England.  They had five sons and six daughters, named William, Gilbert, Richard, Walter, Anselm, Margaret, Maud, Eve, Sibyl, Isabella (Marshall) and Joane.
