James I was born on June 19th, 1566 in Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, West Lothian, Scotland.  James I's father was Henry Stuart and his mother was Mary Stuart.  His paternal grandparents were Matthew Stuart and Margaret Douglas; his maternal grandparents were James V Stuart and Marie De Guise.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 58 on March 27th, 1625 in Theobalds Park, Hertford, Hertfordshire, England.  He was buried in King Henry VII Chapel, Westminster Abbey, London, England.


James I's family with Anne Oldenburg

‌James I and Anne were married in a religious ceremony on November 24th, 1589 in Oslo, Norway.  They had three sons and four daughters, named Charles I, Robert Bruce, Henry Frederick, Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary and Sophia.
