Margred was born in 1210 in Caernarvonshire, Wales. Margred's father was King Llywelyn Fawr (The Great) Wales and her mother was Princess Joan Plantagenet England. Her paternal grandparents were Iorworth Dywyndwn Ap Owain Gwynedd and Margred Verch Madog; her maternal grandparents were King John I Plantagenet ("Lackland") England and Agatha de Ferrers. She had a brother and a sister, named David Dafydd and Margaret Verch. She was the second oldest of the three children. She had two half-sisters named The Dark and Margaret verch. She died at the age of 53 in 1263 in Clifford Castle, Herefordshire, England. She was buried in Priory Church, Aconbury, Herefordshire, England.-
