Llywelyn Fawr, known as The Great, was born in 1173 in Aberconway, Arllechwedd Isaf, Caernarvonshire, Wales.  The Great's father was Iorworth Dywyndwn Ap Owain Gwynedd and his mother was Margred Verch Madog.  His paternal grandparents were Owain Gwynedd ap Gruffydd Prince of Gwynedd and Gwladus Verch Llywarch; his maternal grandparents were Madoc ap Maredudd Prince of Powys and Susanna Verch Gruffydd.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 67 in 1240 in Aberconway, Arllechwedd Isaf, Caernarvonshire, Wales.  He was buried in Conway.
