Guillaume II of Bourgogne, known as The Great, was born about 1040 in , Bourgogne, France.  The Great's father was Ct. Renaud I of Bourgogne and his mother was Alix or Adelaideof Normandy.  His paternal grandparents were King Otto Guillaume of Lombards and Ermentrudeof Roucy; his maternal grandparents were Duke Richard II of Normandy (The good) and Judith of Bretagne. He had a brother named The Great.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died on November 12th, 1087 in , France.

They had two sons and four daughters, named Etienne I of Bourgogne, Raimond of Bourgogne, Ermentrudeof Bourgogne, Gisele of Bourgogne, Maud of Bourgogne and Clemence of Bourgogne.
