Baldwin was born in 1039 in Exeter, Devonshire, England.  Baldwin's father was Comte Gilbert (Crispin) de Brionne and his mother was Herleva de Falaise.  His paternal grandparents were Geoffroy Count D' Eu & Brionne and Mrs-Geoffrey Countess of Eu & Brionne; his maternal grandparents were Fulbert de Falaise Chamberlain and Doda Of Falaise. He had a brother named Baldwin.  He was the older of the two children. He had ten half-brothers and fourteen half-sisters, named Baudouin of Okehampton, Richard deTonbridge, Ralph Count of, William, Ralph, William, Robert, Robert de, Robert, Robert, Adela, Hesilia (Elise), Emma, Adeliza, Adélaïde, AdbelahideDe, Adelaide, Adelaide, Emma, Oda (Eudes), Emma, Emma de, Emma and Muriel.  He died at the age of 51 in 1090.
