William Grier Culver 
William Grier was born on March 23rd, 1860 in Coosa Co., AL.1 William Grier's father was Asa Oliver Culver and his mother was Nancy Jane Pody. His paternal grandparents were Nathan A., Jr. Culver and Nacy J. Rayfield; his maternal grandparents were Andrew Jackson Pody and Nancy Dudley. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Perry Dudley, Nathan Andrew, George Pierce, Henry Evans, Oliver Tatner, Sarah A., Mary Adeline and Nancy Emily. He was the fourth youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 90 on July 18th, 1950 in AL. He was buried in Chestnut Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Chilton Co., AL.1 1 General Notes

William Grier Culver, b. 10-28-1886, d. 6-2-1970 , m. Bettie;b. 8-3-1890,
d. 10-24, 1977 are buried in the Verbena (Strock) Cemetery. I am sure
this if the son of Wm. G. son of Asa Oliver & Nancy Pody Culver. My
father visited a large ante bellum house on HWY # 22 just outside of
Maplesville going to Clanton when he was very young. (It is still there
and been restored.) He said that he went there to see Uncle Dudley.
Nancy Culver Rutland was reported to be a mid-wife or something of a
country doctor for the family and neighbors. My father remembers that
she had a black bag and made trips out at night to help the sick. When
her son, Watt O.E., fell in a work accident she nursed him for at least
several months (maybe a year or two) till he died in 1909. There was an
write-up in the Clanton Newspaper about the care she gave to him. (I hope
to one day be able to get a copy of it.)
My father will be 94 in December. He is the last living member of his
siblings. His mind has been gone for a long time, but he is still very
healthy physically. I noticed that many of the Culvers lived to be quite
old. The Rutlands did, too, but dementia or Alzheimers usually robbed
them of their senses before they died.
I have a very complete file on the descendants of WM. and Nancy. When I
come through Rockford in June I stopped at a little store at Kelly's
Crossing. I met a lady there who said she was doing research on the
Culver family. I wish I could make another trip over that way. I plan
to sometime, but I have no idea when.
