General Notes

On 21 May 1849 at Monroe Co., Indiana, David Shields and William Taylor
were discharged from their duties as Administrators of the Estate of
Joseph Shields. The amount in full is now paid into Court as follows
$31.85 by Taylor and David W. Shiedls pays nineteen dollars & 39 cents
making $51.24. Said administrators say they have fully administered said
estate, and ask to be discharged from further liability. And the court
now being now satisfied that said amins. had fully administered all the
goods and chattells of said decedant. It is therefore ordered by the
Court that said Administrators be and they are hereby discharged from all
further liability as such administrators.
On 26 September 1850, David was a resident of Salt Creek Twp., Monroe
Co., Indiana, at the time of the Census living with his mother Sarah with
his age as 23 years.
In 1860, David and Elizabeth were residents of Salt Creek Twp., Monroe
Co., Indiana, at the time of the Census with their children Sarah Jane,
W. L. (Winnie), James A., and Francis M.
In 1870, David and Elizabeth were residents of Salt Creek Twp., Monroe
Co., Indiana, at the time of the Census with their children Winnie, James
A., Francis, Mattie, Roena, Jack and Edward.
In 1880, David and Elizabeth were residents of Perry Twp., Monroe Co.,
Indiana, at the time of the Census.
David W's obituary appeared on 29 June 1892 in the Republican Press,
Bloomington, Indiana, and it read;
David Shields died at his home near Smithville on Tuesday of last week in
his 70th year.
