Mary was born in 1650 in Poundsford,Charde,Somerset County,England. Mary's father was Thomas Symes and her mother was Amy Bridges. Her paternal grandparents were John Symes II and Amy Horner; her maternal grandparents were Edward Bridges and Phillippa Speake. She had nine brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, George, Edward, Charles, William, Henry, Benjamin, Richard, John, Amy, Elizabeth and Catherine. She was the fifth oldest of the thirteen children.-
