John Sowards 
John was born on May 12th, 1854 in Worth County, Missouri. John's father was Henry Sowards and his mother was Matilda Brumfield. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Sowards and Rosannah Spears; his maternal grandparents were John Brumfield and Mary Plaster. He had nine brothers and five sisters, named Henry, James, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Albert, Isaac Anderson, Franklin, Amon, Griffin, Joseph, Eliza Jane, Mary Ann, Mahala, Martha and Anna. He was the second oldest of the fifteen children.-
