Robert Wells was born in 1859 in Tennessee. Robert Wells' father was Robert Cato and his mother was Martha Jane Wells. His paternal grandparents were Roland Cato and Nancy Vincent. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Edmund, Henry, Jefferson Davis, William Hamlin, Saphronia, Martha, Julia, Fannie and Sara. He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.-
