Richard Lewis was born on September 4th, 1813 in Great Barrington, Berkshire, MA.1 Richard Lewis' father was Henry Whitney and his mother was Prudence Grey. His paternal grandparents were Eliasaph Whitney and Mary Bishop. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Platt, Harvey, William Henry, James, Alfred Eliasaph, John, George, Nancy, Sally, Louisa and Betsy Ann. He was the youngest of the twelve children.-
