Petrona was born in 1880 in Aruba.  Petrona's father was Eustachius Flanegin and her mother was María Marcelina Vrolijk. She had nine brothers and seven sisters, named Juan, Lourens, Jan, Cajus, Domingo, Pedro, Ciriaco, Teolindo, Mario, Cecilia, Sarafina, Christina, Clemance, Maria, Ruperta and Wilhelmina.  She was the fifth oldest of the seventeen children.  She died at the age of 27 in 1907 in Aruba.
