María was born about 1898 in Lajas, Puerto Rico. María's father was Francisco Rodríguez-Olán and her mother was Jovita del Carmen Ponce de León-Rivera.  Her paternal grandparents were Pedro María Rodríguez-Torres and Ramona Olán; her maternal grandparents were José Florentino Ponce de León-Nazario de Figueroa and María Juliana Rivera-González.  She had five brothers and a sister, named Corso, José, Francisco, Minguito Ponce, Luis Ponce and María.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  She died due to natural causes or old age on June 28th, 1989 in San Germán, Puerto Rico.  The funeral was arranged by Funeraria Pérez.  Her burial was in June 1989 in Guánica, Puerto Rico.
