Elspet was born on February 13th, 1790 in Drainie, Scotland.  Elspet's father was William Anderson and her mother was Marjory Adam. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Robert, James, William, Alexander, Isobel, Elizabeth and Helen.  She was the seventh oldest of the eight children.
