Ágoston's father was János Körtvélyesi and his mother was Mária  Janovszky.  His paternal grandparents were Mihály Mátyás Körtvélyessy and Mária Valent. He had a brother and two sisters, named Mihály, Mária and Rozália.  He was the oldest of the four children. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Károly, János, Ádám and Rozália.
