Walter was born on January 19th, 1919.  Walter's father was Johann Christian Sander and his mother was Caroline Becker.  His paternal grandparents were Christian Heinrich Abraham Sander and Catharina Lemmertz; his maternal grandparents were Georg Becker and Phillipine Müller. He had six brothers and nine sisters, named Christian, Julius, Balduino, Oscar, Benno, Artur, Elma, Frieda, Hilda, Olivia, Elsa, Amélia, Wilma, Emma and Alma.  He was the fourteenth oldest of the sixteen children.  He died from cancer at the age of 68 on December 29th, 1987.
