Christian was born on November 28th, 1840.  Christian's father was Jacob Sander and his mother was Catharina Umlauf.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Sander and Maria Müller; his maternal grandparents were Johann Jakob Umlauf and Philippine Berlitz. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Jacob, Johannes, Johann, Johann, Wilhelm, Peter, Philipp, Catharina, Elisabeth and Louise.  He was the seventh oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 77 on February 2nd, 1918.
