Philipp was born on January 9th, 1851.  Philipp's father was Jacob Sander and his mother was Catharina Umlauf.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Sander and Maria Müller; his maternal grandparents were Johann Jakob Umlauf and Philippine Berlitz. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Jacob, Johannes, Johann, Johann, Christian, Wilhelm, Peter, Catharina, Elisabeth and Louise.  He was the youngest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 56 on May 31st, 1907.
