Catharina was born on December 10th, 1879.  Catharina's father was Felippe Pohren and her mother was Susanna Finger.  Her paternal grandparents were João Pohren and Maria Schaefer; her maternal grandparents were Jacob (Thiago) Finger and Susanna Margarida Diebel. She had six brothers and five sisters, named Jacob, João, Henrique, Felippe, Pedro, Frederico, Maria, Elisabeth, Anna, Maria and Maria.  She was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.
