Manuel María was born in 1752 in Cumana.  Manuel María's father was Luis Beltran García de Urbaneja y Cortes and his mother was Josefa Manuela Sanchez Vallenilla.  His paternal grandparents are Antonio García de Urbaneja y Andrade and Josefa Francisca Manuela Cortes y Osorio; his maternal grandfather was Dionisio Sanchez Ramirez de Arellano and his maternal grandmother is Ines Maria De Vallenilla y Bocanegra. He had six brothers and nine sisters, named Juan Crisostomo, Antonio, Luis, Dionisio, Jose Francisco, Juan Felipe, Ines Maria, Maria del Rosario, Josefa Manuela, Maria Francisca, Antonia, Narcisa, Leonarda, Juana Rosa and Agustina.
